Customs operation in Mersin: 114 people in custody

An operation was carried out targeting employees at the Mersin Customs Administration. 114 suspects, including public officials, were taken into custody during the operation.

An operation was carried out targeting employees working at the Mersin Customs Administration. 114 people, including civil servants, customs brokers, and brokerage employees, were taken into custody. 

A statement regarding the operation was issued by the Ministry of Interior. The statement said, "Within the scope of a 10-month project-based investigation, 114 suspects, including public officials, were apprehended in the 'CHAIN' operation conducted against civil servants, customs brokers, and brokerage employees working at the Mersin Customs Administration." 

The following statements were included in the announcement published via the Ministry of Interior's social media account: 

"As a result of the work carried out by the Mersin Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch under the coordination of the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and following a project-based investigation into suspected profiteering by civil servants, customs brokers, and brokerage employees at the Mersin Customs Administration, a total of 114 suspects, consisting of 34 public officials as well as customs brokers and brokerage employees, were taken into custody. We congratulate our Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for coordinating the operation and our Mersin Provincial Police Department for carrying it out."
