Dardanelles closed to traffic due to storm

The Dardanelles has been closed to traffic due to a storm. All scheduled ferry services to Bozcaada district have been canceled, and some ferry services in Gökçeada district have also been called off.

In the storm warning issued by the meteorological service for Çanakkale yesterday, it was stated that strong winds and storms from the south and west would reach speeds of 50-75 kilometers per hour, and that strong storms would reach 80-90 kilometers per hour in some areas.

As the storm and strong winds began to take effect in the Dardanelles, the strait was temporarily closed to ship traffic from both the north and south directions at approximately 12:45. The Dardanelles Vessel Traffic Services Directorate notified the captains of other ships via radio announcement that the strait was closed to transit in both directions.

STORM HINDERS ISLAND FERRY SERVICES

Due to adverse weather conditions in the North Aegean Sea, all scheduled services on the Geyikli-Bozcaada line, as well as some scheduled ferry services on the Kabatepe-Gökçeada line, have been canceled.

According to a statement made by Gestaş Deniz Ulaşım A.Ş., which provides passenger and vehicle transport in the Dardanelles and island lines, all planned ferry services on the Geyikli-Bozcaada line for today have been canceled, while the 17:00 and 21:00 services from Kabatepe to Gökçeada, and the 15:00 and 19:00 services from Gökçeada to Kabatepe have also been canceled.
