Drivers take note: Nearly 33 thousand signs removed from highways

It has been reported that 32,845 signs have been removed so far as part of an ongoing effort to simplify speed limit signage on highways nationwide.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu shared details regarding the work being carried out on highway speed limit signage and ensuring uniformity in this area in a written statement.
Reminding that the Presidential Circular titled "Uniformity in Speed Limit Applications on Highways" was published in the Official Gazette dated August 16, 2025, Uraloğlu emphasized that standardization is being carried out in accordance with the principle that "traffic signs should be as few as possible, but as many as necessary," within the framework of the protocol signed between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Interior.
WORK COMPLETED ON PRIORITY ROADS
Stating that the process was completed as of August 31 for a total of 14,590 kilometers of state and provincial roads with an average annual daily traffic of 10,000 or more in the first phase, Uraloğlu stated that 992 pedestrian crossings were completely removed on these routes.
Furthermore, noting that they narrowed 392 residential areas and removed 842 residential areas, Uraloğlu shared the following information: "We removed speed signs at 348 curves and 928 intersections. We changed the speed limit at 427 curves and 108 intersections. We removed speed signs in 553 sections with poor road surfaces. We removed speed signs in 1,058 other sections and added 875 'end of speed limit' signs. We closed 138 median openings. In these efforts, we removed a total of 19,061 signs, including 11,258 speed signs."
PROCESS CONTINUES ON REMAINING ROADS
Uraloğlu stated that as of September 1, the regional directorates of the General Directorate of Highways began work on the remaining 53,989-kilometer road network.
Expressing that the ongoing signage adjustments will be completed by December 31, Uraloğlu noted the following:
"As part of our efforts to simplify speed limit signage on highways across the country, including the first-priority roads, we have removed a total of 32,845 signs to date, 20,055 of which were speed signs."
