The DEM Party has expelled İdil Co-Mayor Türkan Kayır and Municipal Council Member Ekrem Şimşek from the party.
In a statement released by the DEM Party, it was stated: "Unfortunately, it has been observed over this 8-month period that there have been approaches that do not prioritize service to the public, disregard the will of the electorate, act with anti-party mentalities, and attempt to manage the municipality through cronyism."
The written statement issued by the DEM Party Democratic Local Governments Board regarding the expulsions is as follows:
"In the March 31, 2024 elections, the people of İdil decisively expressed their will in favor of our party with a vote share of 71.27 percent.
Following the elections, as the DEM Party and its institutional structures, we set our fundamental principle as eliminating the damage caused by the trustees over 8 years in İdil.
However, we have seen that the damage spread over years by the trustees has also been sought to be continued by certain individuals during this period.
Unfortunately, it has been observed over this 8-month period that there have been approaches that ignore the values and principles of our democratic struggle, do not prioritize service to the public, disregard the will of the electorate, act with anti-party mentalities, and attempt to manage the municipality through cronyism.
Our party's long-term constructive efforts and endeavors have been ignored, and an approach of persistence in these actions has been displayed.
For this reason, İdil Co-Mayor Türkan Kayır was referred to the DEM Party Central Disciplinary Board, and Municipal Council Member Ekrem Şimşek was referred to the DEM Party Şırnak Provincial Disciplinary Board.
The ongoing disciplinary processes regarding Kayır and Şimşek have been evaluated and concluded by our boards.
Our disciplinary boards have decided to expel Kayır and Şimşek from our party. We once again promise that we will fight against mentalities that use the values of this people for their own individual interests.
Together with our council members, we will continue our democratic reaction and opposition in the İdil Municipal Council and will act together with our people.
Those who turn their backs on the public will have no standing in the eyes of the public, neither today nor tomorrow. The only request of the people of İdil from them is to resign from the positions they hold. The will of the people of İdil, who have created values from difficult times to the present and built a free life, must be left to the people of İdil."
