Final warning to vehicle owners: Fines will rain down in 10 days

The final days are approaching for new legal regulations that directly affect millions of vehicles in traffic. As of April 1, 2026, criminal sanctions will begin for accessories and equipment in vehicles that are not specified in the regulations or registered in the vehicle license. The final compliance period granted to drivers is about to expire, and those who do not bring their vehicles into compliance with legal standards during this period face heavy fines as well as the penalty of being banned from traffic.

According to the regulations, all additions made outside of factory specifications that are not included in the license will be considered illegal, and proceedings will be carried out accordingly. Many accessories, from non-standard rims or tires to loud speakers and APP license plates, as well as multimedia screens that obstruct the driver's view, are no longer legal.

Experts believe the goal of the bill is to prevent noise pollution and equipment that causes distractions. The Telecommunications Satellite and Electronics Industrialists Business People Association (TUYAD) held a workshop in this context to develop solution proposals and announced that industry demands would be presented to ministries in Ankara on March 24-25. Among the association's prominent proposals are limiting speaker sound output to 95 dB, allowing large sound systems to be registered in the license under "special status," ensuring passenger multimedia systems do not exceed the steering wheel level to avoid obstructing the driver's view, and requiring that accessories be installed only at authorized services. However, in light of the calendar and regulations determined by the Ministry of Interior, it remains uncertain for now whether these demands will be able to halt the current implementation.

FINES AND SANCTIONS WILL BE DETERRENT

Under the current law, no flexibility will be shown toward vehicles that do not meet the specified criteria. Strict penalties are coming for equipment that creates noise pollution and all hardware that puts driving safety at risk. The legal warning is as follows: "An administrative fine of 21 thousand Turkish liras will be imposed on those who keep sound, music, image, and communication devices in their vehicles that do not comply with the conditions specified in the law and regulations. In addition, the relevant vehicles will be banned from traffic for 30 days."

For this reason, it is advised that those who have APP license plates, non-standard rims and tires, excessively large spoilers, or non-compliant multimedia systems in their vehicles bring their vehicles within legal limits during the remaining days. Otherwise, it will be inevitable for them to face both a significant amount of fines and the temporary banning of their vehicles from traffic.
