Fire at a nursing home in Maltepe, Istanbul! 24 people hospitalized

A fire that broke out at a nursing home in Maltepe, Istanbul, has been extinguished by fire crews. 24 people affected by smoke inhalation were taken to hospitals.

A fire broke out in the special care unit of a 3-story nursing home on Adatepe Street in the Zümrütevler neighborhood of Istanbul's Maltepe district.

Upon notification, numerous police, fire, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.

The elderly residents present in the nursing home during the fire were evacuated by fire crews and facility staff.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished by the fire department.

24 PEOPLE HOSPITALIZED

Some elderly individuals affected by smoke were taken to hospitals after receiving initial treatment from medical teams at the scene.

In a statement issued by the Istanbul Governor's Office, it was noted that the fire, which broke out at the nursing home around 05:10, was extinguished with the intervention of fire crews, stating, "Smoke evacuation efforts are ongoing. There were 90 people in the nursing home at the time of the fire. Individuals affected by smoke have been transferred to nearby hospitals by 112 emergency teams. Other nursing home residents evacuated from the building during the fire have been placed in the facility's multi-purpose hall. The cause of the fire will be determined following the fire department's investigation."

In a subsequent statement from the Governor's Office, it was noted that the fire was determined to have started in a room where residents were staying, and the information was shared that, "The exact cause of the fire will be determined following the fire department's report. Due to the fire, 24 of our citizens have been taken under treatment at nearby hospitals."
