Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) continues the allocation process for 2,500 new taxi license plates in line with its "App-Based Taxi Transportation" project, which aims to strengthen taxi services in the city. It was announced that a total of 250 taxi license plates were put up for sale in the fourth auction held at the Dr. Mimar Kadir Topbaş Performance and Art Center in Yenikapı.

While the first plate was sold for 4 million 905 thousand TL + VAT, other plates were sold at prices ranging between 4 million 826 thousand TL + VAT and 5 million TL + VAT. In today's auction, 116 plates found owners, bringing the total number of sales across four auctions to 202. It was stated that the delivery process for the rights holders who have deposited the plate fees will begin. The highest plate price reached 5 million TL.

DEMİR: "116 TRADESPEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THE AUCTION"

IMM Secretary General Volkan Demir, in his statement regarding the license plate sales, said, "We have held the fourth of our app-based taxi auctions. Although demand was relatively lower in the previous 3 auctions, it has been increasing each time. This is because our taxi tradespeople were just getting used to the procedures, such as what an app-based taxi is and how to purchase a taxi through an auction. However, we can happily say that 116 taxi tradespeople or fellow citizens aspiring to become tradespeople entered the auction and earned the right to purchase a plate."

"THE EXACT FIGURE WILL BE CLEAR IN 15 DAYS"

Stating that they are producing solutions to the taxi shortage problem of Istanbul residents, Demir included the following in his statement:

"We have auctioned over 200 plates in total. As you know, since it is an auction, the exact figure will be clear in 15 days once the security deposits are paid. It will be clear then, but I can happily say that over 200 app-based taxis have been sold so far. Our fellow citizens in Istanbul must already be seeing the taxis we sold in the first 3 auctions in traffic. And we are closely monitoring those taxis we sold, just as we do with other taxis. Satisfaction is quite high; both the taxi tradespeople and our fellow Istanbul residents are satisfied, so we have realized once again what a correct decision we made. We will continue without slowing down until we finish the 2,500 taxis. We are striving to save Istanbul residents from the trouble of finding a taxi."
