Governor's office had warned: Waves claim lives in the Black Sea

Three people from a group of Syrian relatives who entered the sea to cool off in the Atakum district of Samsun were swept away by waves. The incident occurred around 10:30 AM on the beach behind the 19 Mayıs Police Vocational School in the İncesu Yalı neighborhood.

Three of the four people, who were stated to be relatives residing in the Canik district, disappeared from sight due to the strong waves in the sea. Upon notification, police, medical, and Coast Guard teams were dispatched to the area. Citizens also supported the search and rescue efforts.

ONE PERSON LOST THEIR LIFE

As a result of the efforts, Mohammedi Omar Alsayed (41) and Mohammed Omar Alsayed (43) were pulled from the sea and taken to hospitals by ambulance.

Ahmed Omar Alsayed (36), who was washed ashore by the waves, could not be saved despite all interventions at the hospital where he was taken.

It was learned that the treatment of the two people taken to the hospital is ongoing. An investigation into the incident has been initiated by police teams.

GOVERNOR'S OFFICE HAD WARNED IN ADVANCE

On the other hand, the Samsun Governor's Office had announced in a statement made before the incident, based on data received from the 10th Regional Directorate of Meteorology and the Coast Guard Black Sea Regional Command, that wave heights across Samsun were expected to reach 1.5 to 2 meters, and wind speeds were expected to reach 15-25 knots.

The Governor's office had warned citizens not to enter the sea due to adverse weather and sea conditions.
