Investment fraud on social media: 10 suspects arrested

In an operation conducted across 6 provinces centered in Karabük, 10 out of 12 individuals accused of defrauding people of 8 million TL by promising high returns on investments via social media have been arrested. It was determined that the suspects transferred the funds they obtained into crypto assets.

The Karabük Provincial Police Department carried out a large-scale operation targeting suspects who defrauded citizens with the promise of investment via social media. Teams identified individuals who were committing fraud by using the pretext of investing with the promise of profit through social media platforms and employing a down-payment method.

12 SUSPECTS DETAINED

Simultaneous operations were conducted in the provinces of Adana, Mersin, Ankara, Istanbul, and Giresun as part of the investigation centered in Karabük. A total of 12 suspects were detained in the operations. Investigations revealed that the suspects had defrauded 34 people from 17 different provinces of approximately 8 million TL. Furthermore, police teams tracking the money obtained from the fraud determined that these funds were transferred into crypto assets.

The 12 suspects, whose procedures at the police station were completed, were referred to the courthouse. While 2 of the suspects were released, 10 individuals brought before the court were arrested and sent to prison.
