Lawyer Hüseyin Özbek evaluates the symbolic laying down of arms: “A second Habur or a second Mudros?”
The symbolic ceremony of laying down arms held by the PKK terrorist organization in Sulaymaniyah has sparked public debate. Hüseyin Özbek, a lawyer, writer, and former vice president of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations, characterized the process as a ‘Second Mudros.’

The symbolic ceremony of laying down arms by the PKK, which took place today (July 11, 2025) in Sulaymaniyah within the borders of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq and was presented by sources close to the PKK terrorist organization as a "historic step taken for peace," has brought not only political debates but also historical comparisons.
Lawyer Hüseyin Özbek defined the events as “not a second Habur, but a second Mudros.”
According to Özbek, this development is a flare signaling a serious existential threat to the unitary structure and integrity of the Republic of Turkey.
“THIS IS A DOCUMENT OF SURRENDER”
Özbek describes the process as “the theater of laying down arms by the PKK, the regional apparatus of imperialism.” Stating that the promises made regarding the end of terrorism do not reflect the truth, the lawyer and writer uses the following expressions:
“This propaganda, which runs on the lie that 'the flowing blood will stop,' is essentially a scheme designed to legitimize ethnic separatism. July 11, 2025, is not a second Habur, but a second Mudros. This picture evokes the Armistice of Mudros signed on October 30, 1918.”
REMINDERS FROM HISTORY: “MUDROS WAS THE PREFACE TO SEVRES”
Hüseyin Özbek made a striking analogy between the 1918 Armistice of Mudros and today's developments. Reminding that Mudros was a “document of surrender” imposed on the Ottoman Empire by the victorious states, Özbek stated that the administrators of the period tried to pass this document off as a success.
“The Palace and the Armistice Government of the time presented this document of shame as a great diplomatic victory, and even issued a commemorative stamp. We do not know when the commemorative stamp for the theater in Sulaymaniyah will be issued, but the same feeling of surrender is being re-injected into society.”
Drawing attention to the fact that the British battleship on which the Mudros document was signed was named “Agamemnon,” Özbek emphasized periods when state reason has weakened, saying, “They lacked the historical consciousness to remember that Agamemnon was the commander who razed Troy.”
"STATE REASON HAS BEEN LOST, THE EXISTENTIAL THREAT IS DEEPENING"
Arguing that the ceremony held by the PKK in Sulaymaniyah carries not only symbolic but also historical meanings, Hüseyin Özbek stated that this development is one of the significant breaking points in terms of national security.
“Periods when state reason is lost and national sensitivities evaporate are not just simple political ruptures, but the beginning of total existential threats.”

A second Habur or a second Mudros?
Hüseyin Özbek
The winner of the theater of laying down arms by the PKK, the regional apparatus of imperialism, is ethnic separatism; the loser is Turkey.
The tall tale that 'terrorism will end and the flowing blood will stop' is a lie; the reality is that ethnic separatism is being legitimized.
July 11, 2025, reminds one more of a second Mudros than a second Habur. The October 30, 1918, Armistice of Mudros was signed by the defeated Ottoman Empire under the imposition of the victors of World War I.
Mudros was designed as the preface to Sèvres, the eternal death warrant of the Turks.
The Armistice Government and the Palace of the time reflected Mudros, a document of shame and surrender that put the Turkish Nation on the path to death, as a great diplomatic victory and issued a commemorative stamp.
The 'Agamemnon' inscription on the side of the British battleship where the document of shame was signed was not enough to warn our oblivious diplomats!
Because they were wretches lacking the historical consciousness and diplomatic culture required to remember that Agamemnon was the commander-in-chief of the invading Greek Army that razed Troy in the ancient period!
We do not know when the commemorative stamp of the Sulaymaniyah theater will be issued, but we can say with certainty that the destructive effect of periods when state reason is lost and national sensitivity evaporates is turning into an existential threat for the country.
