Ministry of National Defense: 'Search and rescue operations continue for passenger ship that sank off the coast of Kyrenia'

The Ministry of National Defense announced that search and rescue operations regarding the passenger ship that sank off the coast of Kyrenia are being carried out by the Naval Forces.

The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) reported that search and rescue operations launched following the sinking of a passenger ship off the coast of Kyrenia are ongoing.

In a statement made on the ministry's social media account, it was stated that Naval Forces teams are continuing their duties in the region. The statement included the phrase, “Our Naval Forces are continuing search and rescue operations regarding the passenger ship that sank off the coast of Kyrenia.”

The MSB announced that Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ünal Üstel and Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ataoğlu also visited the TCG Alemdar ship to monitor the operations on-site.

TRNC Prime Minister Üstel had previously stated in a statement that efforts to reach the missing persons were continuing without interruption and that the process regarding the recovery of the ship's wreckage would “become clear tomorrow.”
