After 8-year-old Narin Güran could not be reached around 15:00 on August 21 in the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood, her family notified the authorities, leading to the deployment of 112 Emergency Health, Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), AFAD, and Dicle University Search and Rescue (DÜAK) teams to the area. The search operation, initiated by an accredited team of 149 people including both AFAD and the gendarmerie, has been ongoing for 7 days.

Mother Yüksel Güran expressed that she wants Narin back, that she is crying, and that she hopes other mothers do not cry and that no other children go missing like Narin.

“WE HAVE FORGOTTEN OURSELVES, DO NOT OCCUPY OUR STATE”

Stating that people on social media are causing them great distress, Güran said, “Such ugly comments are coming in, they are upsetting my children, they are occupying the state, the police, and the gendarmerie; they should be ashamed of themselves. A person cannot mock a little girl like this. It is very shameful; how can they make such comments about a child, a mother’s heart, and her siblings? Shame on them. We wake up at the crack of dawn and someone calls saying Narin is dead, they saw her body, Narin is here. We receive thousands of messages. We have forgotten ourselves, let them not occupy our state. This is what I want, this is what I want to express.”

Stating that there are currently no detentions, Güran spoke as follows:

“Right now, they are taking me, her father, the neighbors, the children, and her brother. We go and come back. We are grateful. They are acting so meticulously that they are even questioning me; I am very happy with the work. I am glad our state is doing something like this. They are doing it all for my daughter. Let them take me, let them take her father, her brother.”

“MY WHOLE FAMILY IS RUINED”

“We are questioning ourselves, we look but we cannot find anything within ourselves,” said mother Güran, adding, “I beg whoever it is, man or woman, I beg in front of all of Turkey, leave my daughter in a corner, at the state’s door. My whole family is ruined. We cannot say this person did it, that person did it, who are you? If you want worldly goods, we will sell our beds, we will give you whatever we have, we will give you that money. Is worldly wealth more precious than Narin? Do not leave me with a note for a lifetime. I have no strength left. I have 5 sons, I have one daughter. If this person knows, I am devoted to them,” she said.

Mother Güran concluded her words as follows:

“School is almost starting, all the children are gathering in front of my door. The school is right across from me; I cannot live without Narin. Her father collapsed like a mountain, her brother was going to the military; they made our lives miserable. Ask about us, we are not that kind of family. Who have we harmed? Ask everywhere, my family is very sweet, our family goes for peace every day. If Narin appears before me, I have seen so much pain, whether it is that man or that woman, I will thank them. I will hold a beautiful memorial service. My brother-in-law’s wedding will be held, I will put a wedding dress on Narin, and in front of all of Turkey, I will dance with my daughter.”
