New era for Class B driver's licenses: Penalties to increase

As the regulation to be submitted to the TBMM Justice Commission reaches its final stage, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that the changes will also have significant consequences for license holders.

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), which went into recess on July 21, 2025, will begin its new legislative year on Wednesday. The 11th Judicial Package, which was widely discussed by the public during the recess, will be one of the first topics to be addressed as soon as the Assembly opens. Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made detailed statements regarding the package.
PROVISIONS CONCERNING DRIVERS
The package, which includes regulations on cybercrimes and acts committed by minors, particularly highlights provisions regarding traffic violations. Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that acts such as 'road blocking' or 'attacks on drivers and vehicles' in traffic will be evaluated under a new category of crime. In this context, the driver's licenses of those who commit such violations will be revoked for progressively increasing periods.
NEW SANCTIONS FOR CLASS B LICENSES
New sanctions are also on the agenda for holders of Class B licenses, which cover automobiles and light commercial vehicles. In the event of driving under the influence or refusing a test three times within five years, the driver's license will be revoked for exponentially increasing periods. It is planned to increase the periods currently in effect by half.
SANCTIONS FOR LICENSE PLATE ALTERATIONS
Judicial fines applied to drivers who make alterations that prevent the reading of vehicle license plates or cause them to be read differently will be increased. Furthermore, temporary license revocation may also be applied to these individuals. In the event that a registration plate belonging to another vehicle is used, the driver's license will be revoked and the vehicle subject to the violation will be banned from traffic.
