The General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey has accepted 6 additional articles within the scope of a proposal that introduces changes to the Highway Traffic Law, increasing traffic fines. With these regulations, monetary fines for many rule violations have been increased, and sanctions such as the suspension of driver's licenses and the impoundment of vehicles have been expanded.
HEAVY SANCTIONS FOR DRIFTING AND DANGEROUS DRIVING
Acrobatic and dangerous driving, known in the public as "drifting," has been brought under the scope of prohibition. Drivers who engage in such maneuvers will be subject to an administrative fine of 140 thousand TL. Furthermore, their driver's licenses will be revoked for 60 days, and their vehicles will be prohibited from traffic for 60 days. At the end of this period, the return of the license is conditional upon a psychotechnical evaluation and the full payment of the fine.
FINES FOR SCOOTER USE IN PEDESTRIAN AREAS
With the new regulation, the use of bicycles, electric scooters, and mopeds in areas reserved for pedestrians has also become subject to fines. Those who commit this violation will be issued a fine of 5 thousand TL. For businesses providing shared electric scooter services, a requirement to obtain an authorization certificate from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has been introduced; those operating without a certificate will be subject to a fine of 86 thousand 900 TL.
2-YEAR LICENSE SANCTION FOR UNAUTHORIZED RACING
The proposal also includes new sanctions for unauthorized races and similar risky driving activities. Those who carry out these actions will be given a fine of 46 thousand TL, their driver's licenses will be revoked for 2 years, and their vehicles will be prohibited from traffic for 60 days.
NEW REGULATION FOR OTHER TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS
Among the accepted articles are other provisions aimed at increasing traffic safety and oversight. Administrative sanctions are planned for drivers who do not comply with traffic regulations or who engage in vehicle loading that is contrary to the regulations.
