Ahead of the NATO summit to be held in Ankara on July 7-8, an operation was conducted in İzmir targeting individuals alleged to have links to leftist organizations.
Within the scope of the investigation coordinated by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terrorism and Organized Crime Bureau, detention warrants were issued for 71 people suspected of planning to protest the NATO leaders.
Teams from the Provincial Security Directorate's Counter-Terrorism Branch carried out simultaneous operations at the identified addresses. 61 people were detained during the operations.
It was reported that security teams are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining 10 individuals for whom detention warrants have been issued.
