OTS reaches consensus: 5 letters not used in Turkey added to 'Common Turkic Alphabet'
The Common Turkic Alphabet Commission, established by the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) for a "Common Turkic Alphabet," has reached a consensus in Baku.

An important step has been taken regarding the common alphabet, which frequently comes to the agenda among the Turkic world.
According to the report by Murat Öztekin from Türkiye newspaper, the common alphabet, which includes 5 letters not used in Turkey (Ä, Ñ, Ū, Q, X), could be put into use in the coming years through political steps to be taken by the countries of the Turkic world.
Stating that a common alphabet has become a necessity among the Turkic world today, Prof. Dr. Hayati Develi said, "However, it is not correct to view this as an alphabet change. We will continue to use the 29-letter alphabet in Turkey. Only the equivalents of some different sounds will also be known. Thus, it will become easier for us to read each other's texts. Our common cultural values will be conveyed more easily; economic and political relations will develop. In the long term, this situation could lead us to a common language through the exchange of words."
