Heavy rainfall that was effective in Sarıyer toward the early morning hours caused flooding. A creek located on Kilyos Street in Sarıyer overflowed. A road collapsed at the Kilyos tunnel construction site being built by İCA. A parked truck fell into the collapsed road, and floodwaters filled a restaurant in the area. While meters of water accumulated in the restaurant, damage occurred from the garden of the business to the basement floor.
Upon notification, fire department, AFAD, and AKUT teams were dispatched to the scene. While the teams evacuated the floodwaters in a short time, the business became unusable. Damage assessment work at the business is ongoing.
Hakan Kaptan, whose business was flooded due to the creek overflowing, said, "We closed our business at 2 a.m. and went home. They blocked the creek during the tunnel work being done by İCA. They built a road over it. This place has been our family's for 20 years and a restaurant for 11 years, and it has been flooded for the first time. It rose up to 2 meters in height. We were stranded in our home and couldn't get out. We heard an explosion sound from the electricity and cables below, we were scared. This is a business that 6 thousand people enter and exit every month. Only the wall clock in the shop is intact, other than that everything we have is ruined. We have 40 employees, we don't know what to do. No one from that company came. Our District Governor sent a team here. They said they would come from the Ministry for damage assessment. AKUT, the fire department, everyone is here. Our 11 years of hard work was ruined because of a creek."
