An individual who climbed outside the railings of the Şükrü Sözen Bridge in Manavgat's Örnek neighborhood caused panic as he attempted suicide. Upon reports from citizens who saw the person standing dangerously on the bridge with a knife in his hand and a rope tied around his neck, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, 112 Emergency Health, and Manavgat Police Department teams were dispatched to the scene.
While the teams that reached the area in a short time took security measures, a crowd formed around the bridge. Osman B., who stated that he would end his life, was brought down from where he was standing as a result of long-lasting persuasion efforts by Sinan Karaman, Chief of the Manavgat Police Department's Public Security Bureau. The individual, who was taken to a safe area, was placed in a police vehicle amidst the applause of the crowd gathered around.
Osman B., who is 55 years old and a father of 3, was taken to Manavgat State Hospital for a health check.
HE HAD PREVIOUSLY MADE HEADLINES WITH THE SAME METHOD
In the investigation conducted, it was determined that Osman B. has attempted suicide a total of 7 times to date. It was learned that the individual had attempted a similar act on July 1, 2020, by wrapping a rope he tied to the railings of the Manavgat Ring Road Bridge around his neck.
It was noted that during that incident, he trembled from time to time and held his heart, causing concern in the surroundings, and that he abandoned his act after central gendarmerie station teams, who happened to be passing by the bridge, promised him, "We will find you a job as soon as possible."
