In the Erdemli district of Mersin, a baby who was reportedly born in a state hospital restroom and left in a trash can was found alive thanks to the vigilance of a cleaning worker. It was learned that the baby, who was taken under medical care, is in good health.
In the incident that occurred on August 27 at Erdemli State Hospital, 16-year-old H.E.Y. came to the hospital with her mother, R.H., after feeling unwell. It was determined that H.E.Y., who began bleeding at the hospital, gave birth in the restroom and subsequently left the baby in the trash can.
A cleaning worker who entered the restroom noticed the baby alive in the trash can and reported the situation to the authorities. While the baby was taken under treatment at the hospital, police teams launched an investigation under the instructions of the Mersin and Erdemli Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices.
The investigation determined that the baby's mother was 16-year-old H.E.Y. Following her two-day treatment at the hospital, H.E.Y. and her mother, R.H., who had brought her to the hospital, were referred to the courthouse.
H.E.Y., who was brought before the duty magistrate, was arrested on charges of "attempted intentional homicide." R.H. was released under judicial control conditions. It was reported that the baby's father has also been identified within the scope of the investigation and that proceedings are ongoing.
