Students protesting scholarship and loan increases detained

The Student Collectives protested the 33 percent increase in 2026 scholarships and student loans for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, which was announced by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following a cabinet meeting.
According to ANKA, during the simultaneous marches held in Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir, students carried banners reading, "11.5 billion TL for NATO, 4 thousand TL for university students. Budget for education, not war." The slogan "We will not be condemned to poverty" was prominent during the protests.
In Istanbul, the group attempting to march in Taksim was not permitted to do so, and police teams intervened. It was reported that 7 people were detained during the intervention.
