The district that broke the record for population growth in Istanbul has been identified

The 2025 population statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) have revealed that Tuzla holds the top spot for population growth rate among Istanbul's districts.

The Turkish Statistical Institute has shared Turkey's 2025 population data with the public.

In Turkey, where the rate of population growth has been a subject of recent debate, the latest figures show that the country's population reached 86 million 92 thousand 168 people in 2025.

According to the data, the male population was recorded at 43 million 59 thousand 434, while the female population was 43 million 32 thousand 734. Thus, men made up 50.02 percent of the total population, and women made up 49.98 percent.

ISTANBUL'S POPULATION EXCEEDS 15.7 MILLION

TÜİK data also shed light on population mobility in Istanbul and its districts.

According to the announced results, Istanbul's total population rose to 15 million 754 thousand 53. While the annual population growth rate in the megacity was calculated at 3.3 per thousand, Istanbul continued to house approximately 18 percent of Turkey's population.

TUZLA AT THE TOP IN ANNUAL GROWTH

Tuzla, located on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, was at the forefront of districts that stood out in terms of population growth rate in 2025.

The district's population increased by 12 thousand 465 people compared to the previous year, reaching 313 thousand 865. According to TÜİK data, Tuzla's annual population growth rate was recorded at 40.5 per thousand (approximately 4 percent). With this rate, Tuzla ranked first among Istanbul's districts in population growth rate.

Tuzla was followed by Arnavutköy with a growth rate of 38.7 per thousand, while Silivri ranked third with a growth rate of 33.4 per thousand.
