As of July 1, three new practices covering the environment, insurance, and food and beverage sectors will be implemented across Turkey. While the Deposit Return System begins, new rules regarding compensation and damage processes in mandatory traffic insurance will be applied. In national chain restaurants, it will become mandatory to include calorie and allergen information on menus.

DEPOSIT SYSTEM FOR BEVERAGE PACKAGING BEGINS

The Deposit Return System, prepared to reduce environmental pollution and increase recycling rates, goes into effect on July 1.

Within the scope of the application, deposit return machines will be placed in all 81 provinces and 973 districts of Turkey. Glass, plastic (PET), metal, and certain cardboard beverage packaging bearing the "Deposit Return" logo will be accepted under the system.

Citizens will be able to receive a deposit fee of 1 lira for each piece of packaging by delivering eligible packaging to the deposit return machines.

DAMAGE AND COMPENSATION PROCESS IN TRAFFIC INSURANCE CHANGES

With the regulation coming into effect on July 1, new practices regarding damage, loss of value, and compensation procedures in mandatory traffic insurance will begin.

The loss of value occurring in vehicles will be calculated by experts in accordance with the principles determined by the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK). Vehicle owners who file a damage claim will no longer need to make a separate application for loss of value.

With the new regulation, prosthetic organ expenses and necessary caregiver costs have also been added to the scope of health expense coverage. Updates have also been made to the principles regarding the calculation of disability and death compensation.

On the other hand, insurance companies will be able to conduct application and notification processes through digital channels such as e-Devlet, mobile applications, email, and SMS.

MENUS IN CHAIN RESTAURANTS WILL CHANGE

Within the scope of the new regulation concerning the food and beverage sector, national chain restaurants will share the calorie values and allergen information of the food and beverages on their menus with consumers.

The application will be mandatory for chain restaurants in the first stage. Other restaurants are expected to comply with the new system by December 31, 2026, and cafes by the end of 2027.
