Turkey ranks 2nd in refugee population

The rising rate of migration in Turkey in recent years is reflected in the data. According to the "Turkey Migration Mobility Report" prepared by the Migration and Diaspora Foundation, Turkey ranks 12th in the world in terms of total immigrant population. In terms of refugee population, Turkey ranks 2nd on a global scale.

The Migration and Diaspora Foundation held a press conference at a hotel in Fatih. During the meeting, the "Turkey Migration Mobility Report" was released. According to the report, Turkey ranks 12th in the world in terms of total immigrant population. Even though the influx of refugees into the country has stopped as of 2021, Turkey still ranks 2nd in terms of refugee population.

Recep Seyyar, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation, made statements at the press conference based on the report.

Seyyar stated the following:

"In a graph showing data on regular immigrants of foreign nationality arriving in and departing from Turkey, a significant decrease is observed in the number of regular immigrants coming to Turkey in 2022 and 2023. A significant increase is also observed in the number of immigrants leaving Turkey. People who had previously settled in Turkey, who wanted to live in this country, and who wanted to be here with regular legal statuses defined by law are now leaving Turkey."

'WE ARE STILL 2ND IN REFUGEE POPULATION'

Seyyar said, "Turkey is the 12th country in the world in terms of the number of immigrants. We are not the country hosting the most immigrants. As of 2021, there has been no influx of Syrians into Turkey for the last 3 years. We have stopped issuing temporary protection IDs to Syrians. Therefore, despite the fact that no refugees have arrived since 2021 and more than 500 thousand Syrians have returned through the voluntary return process, we are still 2nd in refugee population, but we are 12th in the world in terms of total immigrant presence."
