Following the water shortage experienced in the Çeşme district of İzmir, the button has been pressed for a water cut application that is spreading across the city.
Due to drought and a serious decrease in water resources, water cannot be provided in Çeşme every day between 23:00 and 09:00. Following this situation, the Water Board within the İzmir Water and Sewerage Administration (İZSU) General Directorate held an extraordinary meeting. The board took a series of decisions to evaluate the current situation and determine new measures.
According to the data, an average of 700 thousand cubic meters of water is consumed daily in İzmir. However, the water level in the Tahtalı Dam, the city's most critical drinking water source, has dropped to a dangerous level. No water can be drawn from the Gördes Dam anymore.
In line with the decision taken after the meeting, it was decided to implement water cuts at certain hours throughout İzmir. Accordingly, cuts will be applied every night between 23:00 and 05:00 starting from August 6 in regions where water consumption is highest.
Which neighborhoods and regions will be affected by the cuts will be officially announced in the coming days.
