CHP Chairman Özgür Özel spoke to Sabah columnist Yavuz Donat. Stating that the softening process has significant support among the public, Özel said, "Today, there are opponents of softening and normalization in both parties... It is a matter of discomfort for those who feed on tension. However, people on the street do not give credit to those who derive their sustenance from tension... They do not listen to them."
In his article titled "Özgür Özel: Normalization has been bought on the street," Donat conveyed what Özel said regarding softening and normalization in politics as follows:
"Normalization has been bought on the street. Political tension has no benefit to Turkey, nor does it have any benefit to the CHP... The nation wants softening... I visited 25 provinces after the election... In every province, district, neighborhood, and street I visited, I saw this; softening and normalization have a response among the public. Today, there are opponents of softening and normalization in both parties... It is a matter of discomfort for those who feed on tension. However, people on the street do not give credit to those who derive their sustenance from tension. They do not listen to them. Those who feed on tension are uncomfortable with this. There are politicians and journalists on both sides who feed on tension. But I ask you, what is the benefit of this to our country and our nation?"
