Yeni Parti MP Melih Meriç, who was the victim of a knife attack in Gaziantep, has been transferred from Gaziantep City Hospital, where he was receiving treatment, to Istanbul. The 57-year-old Meriç was brought by a private air ambulance and admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Istanbul.

It was learned that Meriç has been intubated there. It was stated that Meriç, who had been moved to a regular ward following surgery during his treatment process in Gaziantep, was in stable condition, and that the decision to continue his treatment in Istanbul was made at the request of his relatives.

The attack occurred on August 18 in the Akkent neighborhood of the central Şahinbey district of Gaziantep. Meriç, who was wounded with a knife, was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery following the incident.

Of the 5 suspects detained as part of the investigation, Seydi Ahmet Keleş and his son Hakan Keleş were arrested, while the other 3 suspects were released under judicial control conditions.

It was reported that Seydi Ahmet Keleş, who is alleged to have wounded the MP with a knife, stated in his police testimony that he had argued with Meriç regarding an appointment to the Yeni Parti Oğuzeli District Presidency.
