Yerlikaya announces: 7 bodies of irregular migrants recovered

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 19 irregular migrants were rescued and the bodies of 7 irregular migrants were recovered at Karaada in the Çeşme district of İzmir.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced in a post that the bodies of 7 irregular migrants have been recovered in İzmir.

In his post, Yerlikaya stated the following: 

Following a report received today at 10:47 AM in the Çeşme district of İzmir that there was a group of irregular migrants on Karaada in Çeşme, that 1 irregular migrant had been picked up from the sea by a fishing boat in the area, and that there might be other irregular migrants in the sea, the following were dispatched to the region:

4 Coast Guard boats,

1 Coast Guard helicopter, and

1 Coast Guard diving team.

As a result of the search and rescue operations conducted by Coast Guard units, a total of 19 irregular migrants—18 from the island and 1 from the fishing boat in the area—were rescued in good health, and unfortunately, the bodies of 7 irregular migrants were recovered.
