United Arab Emirates (UAE) government officials held a press conference regarding regional conflicts and attacks originating from Iran. Abdulnasser Al-Humaidi, the official spokesperson for the UAE Ministry of Defense, announced that the country's air defense systems engaged 186 ballistic missiles launched toward the country, with 172 of them destroyed and neutralized, 13 falling into the sea, and 1 missile landing on UAE territory. Al-Humaidi stated that the limited damage recorded was not due to direct hits on targets, but rather caused by falling debris. Al-Humaidi also stated that 812 Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were detected, 755 of which were intercepted, and 57 fell within the country's territory. Al-Humaidi stated, "The UAE possesses highly advanced, multi-layered air defense systems capable of countering various air threats, from long-range to short-range, with high effectiveness," noting that the military continues to remain on high alert with reinforced early warning systems.
"Iran launched its attacks without considering the UAE's position"
UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al-Hashimy described Iran's attacks as "unjustified," stating that they reserve their right to self-defense following the attacks. Expressing that the United Arab Emirates is conducting intensive diplomacy with its Gulf neighbors to prevent military conflict, Al-Hashimy said, "Iran launched its attacks without considering the UAE's position."
Al-Hashimy stated that her country has taken decisive steps, including closing its embassy in Tehran and recalling its ambassador, as part of procedures to protect its interests and security. Al-Hashimy expressed that despite the gravity of the events, her country continues to remain balanced on the basis of restraint while prioritizing national security.
UAE officials had previously announced that 3 people, all foreign nationals, had lost their lives in the country since Iran began its retaliatory attacks against targets in Gulf countries. Damage also occurred to some buildings, and Dubai International Airport and Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi were also struck.
