The repercussions of the knife attack carried out last night during the celebrations held for the 650th anniversary of the founding of the German city of Solingen continue.
Düsseldorf Prosecutor Markus Caspers held a press conference today regarding the attack alongside police officer Thorsten Fleiss. Fleiss stated that they had detained a 15-year-old suspect and were investigating whether there was a connection to the attacker, who is still at large. Fleiss said, “The attacker appears to have targeted people's throats.”
Prosecutor Caspers noted that the victims of the attack do not appear to have any connection to one another and that the possibility of “terrorism” cannot be ruled out.
In a statement made by the police within the scope of the investigation, it was said, “The investigation and manhunt for other possible perpetrators and the motives for the crime are continuing at full speed.”
THE ATTACKER FLED THE SCENE
During the festival held as part of the celebrations in Solingen, located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, 3 people lost their lives and 8 others were injured, 5 of them seriously, after the attacker randomly stabbed people around 21:45 local time yesterday. Numerous medical and police teams were dispatched to the area, but the attacker had fled the scene.
