3 attacks carried out against UNIFIL forces in Lebanon in one day

Attacks against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) stationed in Lebanon continue. In a statement made by UNIFIL, it was reported that UNIFIL soldiers and facilities were the target of 3 separate attacks in one day, and that 4 Ghanaian soldiers were injured.
The statement noted that 4 Ghanaian peacekeepers were injured when a rocket, believed to have been fired by non-state actors in Lebanon, hit the “UNP 5-42” base east of the village of Ramyah, adding that 3 of the soldiers were transferred to a hospital for treatment.
The statement further reported that 5 rockets hit the maintenance workshop of the UNIFIL Headquarters in Shama, causing heavy damage to the workshop but resulting in no injuries to any peacekeepers. Recalling that the headquarters in question had been targeted for the second time in less than a week, the statement noted that a 155 mm artillery shell had hit the base on November 15.
The statement also indicated that a UNIFIL patrol northeast of the village of Khirbat Silim was fired upon by an armed individual, noting that no peacekeepers were injured in that attack.
Stating that UNIFIL has launched an investigation into the attacks, the statement said, “UNIFIL once again reminds all actors involved in the ongoing hostilities of their obligation to respect the safety and security of UN personnel and premises. The regular attacks on peacekeepers, whether direct or indirect, must end immediately.
Any attack on peacekeepers is a clear violation of international law and Resolution 1701, which forms the basis of UNIFIL's current mandate. Despite these and other challenges, peacekeepers remain in all positions and will continue to impartially monitor and report on violations of Resolution 1701,” it said.
REACTION FROM ITALY
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto reacted to the attack on the UNIFIL Headquarters in Shama, saying, “There was another attack today. This is an unacceptable situation.”
ARGENTINA WITHDRAWS ITS SOLDIERS
United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Spokesperson Andrea Tenenti stated that Argentina has withdrawn its soldiers serving in UNIFIL, saying, “Argentina has asked its soldiers to return to Argentina.”

Argentina is one of the 48 countries contributing to UNIFIL and, according to the UN website, currently has a total of 3 personnel in Lebanon. Argentina became the first country to withdraw its soldiers from UNIFIL.
