A 6.3 magnitude earthquake has occurred in Ecuador.
According to a statement from the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR), the earthquake was felt strongly in the towns of Eloy Alfaro, Atacames, Muisne, Quinindé, Rio Verde, and San Lorenzo in the province of Esmeraldas.
CRACKS IN 60 BUILDINGS, 20 INJURED
Authorities announced that 20 people were injured in various ways and that cracks had formed in 60 buildings.
It was stated that repairs have begun on power lines damaged in the Esmeraldas province following the earthquake, and that electricity has been restored to 80 percent of the region.
Images shared on social media drew attention to the fact that some houses had partially collapsed.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) had announced that the 6.3 magnitude earthquake, with its epicenter 20 kilometers northwest of the Esmeraldas province, occurred at a depth of 35 kilometers.
