A 7.4 magnitude earthquake has occurred off the coast of the Maluku Sea in the Southeast Asian country of Indonesia.

According to a statement by the United States Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be approximately 126 kilometers northwest of the city of Ternate in North Maluku.

DAMAGE OCCURRED ON ISLANDS

The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of approximately 35 kilometers, caused destruction on the surrounding islands.

TSUNAMI WARNING WITHDRAWN

The tsunami warning issued following the tremor was lifted in the hours that followed. While no official statement has yet been made regarding loss of life in the earthquake, the possibility of deaths and injuries in the region is being considered.
