The operation that ended with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro being removed from the country by the US military triggered a remarkable wave of betting on a digital prediction platform. The high-stakes bet placed on the platform immediately after the event brought with it allegations of insider information leaks.
According to information obtained from German-based media outlets, a user whose identity is kept confidential placed a $32,500 bet that Maduro would be removed from office before the end of January. It was stated that the transaction was made shortly before US President Donald Trump gave the order for military intervention.
As soon as the operation was successfully concluded, the bettor in question transferred a profit exceeding $400,000 to their wallet.
IDENTITY REMAINS UNKNOWN
Thanks to the anonymity offered by the crypto-based platform, the real name or identity of the person behind the bet remains a mystery. It was determined that the account, which was initially identified as transacting under the username "Burdensome-Mix," later changed its name. According to NPR data, the account had been activated only a few weeks before Maduro's capture.
REMARKABLE ACTIVITY BEFORE THE OPERATION
According to details reported by the BBC, there were sudden spikes in betting odds on the platform hours before the military operation began. While the probability of Maduro being removed from office was only 6.5 percent at noon on Friday, this rate rose to 11 percent by midnight.
The fact that a large bet was placed before Trump's statements raised questions regarding the timing of the event.
