A first in 2 weeks: Medical supplies reach northern Gaza

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated in a post on his social media account that the WHO had delivered medical supplies to Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza, noting that this was the first time medical supplies had reached the northern part of the strip in 2 weeks.

In his statement, Ghebreyesus said, "The WHO managed to reach Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City amidst ongoing intense fighting. This is the first mission to the northern part of the Gaza Strip since May 13."

Ghebreyesus reported that 15,000 liters of fuel, 14 hospital beds, and enough medicine and trauma supplies to meet the needs of 1,500 people were delivered, adding, "Al-Ahli Hospital is serving twice as many people as it was designed for, while lacking basic surgical supplies. Due to the absence of specialized staff, life-saving surgeries cannot be performed in the evenings."

The WHO Director-General stated that they were unable to reach a nearby hospital due to delays at the checkpoint, adding that moving toward the north is difficult due to the destruction of roads as well as the lack of fuel and safe access.

Noting that the city is full of rubble and debris, Ghebreyesus said, "We reiterate our call for a ceasefire."
