US President Donald Trump reported that oil-carrying ships in the Strait of Hormuz have begun to move again. Trump emphasized that the tankers departing from the region are continuing their transit via the southern route, which he described as "completely safe." Trump's statement also pointed to the existence of alternative routes.
Trump stated, "Ships, most of them loaded with oil, have started to leave the Strait of Hormuz. They are using the southern 'highway,' which is completely safe, secure, and untouched. There are other travel routes too!!!"
Meanwhile, claims that Iran has brought a new clause to the agenda in negotiations with the US regarding oil transportation through the Strait of Hormuz have drawn attention. According to Iranian sources, a "maritime services" heading was added to the negotiation text in the final stage of the talks, and this change has paved the way for Iran to demand fees from commercial ships passing through the strait.
According to reports from Iran-based news agencies, the agreement emphasizes Iranian-Omani sovereignty. Within the scope of the negotiations, it was reported that passages for ships using the Strait of Hormuz would be free for the first 60 days. However, it is alleged that after this period, Iran plans to charge commercial ships for security, navigation, environmental protection, and insurance services.
Sources regarding the course of the negotiations stated that US President Donald Trump demanded the reopening of the strait immediately after the announcement of the agreement, but that Iran has not yet responded positively to this request. According to the reports, the start of passages will be possible after the agreement is signed on Friday; it was noted that Trump specifically highlighted this detail in his post.
STATEMENT FROM PAKISTAN AND FINALIZING THE AGREEMENT
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that an agreement has been reached between the US and Iran. Prime Minister Sharif stated, "He has declared an immediate and permanent end to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon."
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that the agreement reached with the US will be signed in Switzerland on June 19.
As the future of oil transportation in the region is closely shaped by the ongoing diplomacy, all eyes have turned to the signing ceremony to be held in Switzerland.
