In a statement made on social media, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi alleged that the official data from the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) regarding war expenditures does not reflect the truth. Pentagon officials had announced that the conflicts, which have been ongoing since the end of February, have resulted in a bill of approximately 25 billion dollars for the US.

Araghchi, stating that the cost is actually four times higher, used the following expressions: “The Pentagon is lying. The direct cost of Netanyahu's gamble to America so far is 100 billion dollars, four times what is claimed.”

The Iranian Minister made a reference to the “America First” slogan frequently used by US President Donald Trump and added: “The indirect costs for US taxpayers are much higher. The monthly burden for every American household is 500 dollars, and this amount is rising rapidly. Israel comes first; America always comes later.”

While recent developments have made the issue of war spending a subject of debate in the US once again, this latest statement from Iran has brought the economic impacts to the agenda alongside the tension in the region.
