Accommodation app with millions of users, Airbnb, faces ban

Brugge, one of Europe's most tourist-heavy cities known for its medieval architecture and canals, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is preparing to impose certain bans on Airbnb to combat overtourism. 

According to reports in the national press, the Municipality of Brugge has decided not to allow new additions to the existing facilities of the popular short-term rental platform Airbnb due to the local population's discomfort with the influx of tourists. According to information obtained from the tourism office of Brugge, the capital of Belgium's West Flanders region, an average of 27 thousand 500 tourists visited the city of 120 thousand inhabitants daily in 2023.
