According to the US administration, the conflict in Gaza could last for months

Kirby evaluated the latest situation in Gaza and Israel's ongoing attacks during an online press briefing.

John Kirby expressed that Israel's attacks on Gaza might not end in the short term, stating, "We agree with the Israelis that this conflict could last for months."

Reminding that US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan also raised the issue of not targeting civilians during his visit to Israel, Kirby stated that the Israeli military needs to move to a phase where it conducts its operations with more precision and targeting.

Stating that Sullivan clearly conveyed this issue to his Israeli counterparts, Kirby said that the topic of potential governance alternatives in Gaza was also on Sullivan's agenda. Noting that there is no concrete outcome from these discussions yet, Kirby reported that they will continue to consult with relevant elements, including the Palestinian Authority.

On the other hand, in response to a question about where the US stands regarding the increasing attacks caused by illegal Israeli settlers in the West Bank, Kirby stated that these attacks must stop. Kirby said, "Settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank is unacceptable. These attacks must stop."

Responding to a question regarding Israeli forces killing 3 Israeli hostages, Kirby stated that this was a tragic mistake but that they did not have detailed information about the operation.

Upon being reminded that an Al Jazeera photojournalist was killed by Israeli forces, Kirby said that journalists should not be targeted under any circumstances.

Evaluating the approach of Israel, which has killed at least 90 journalists since October 7, Kirby said, "We do not have any indication that they (Israel) are intentionally targeting journalists."
