Airline implements new regulation: Power bank use on planes banned

A power bank fire on a plane in South Korea has forced airlines in Asia to take security measures.

A fire broke out on an Air Busan Airbus A321 aircraft at South Korea's Gimhae Airport after a power bank carried by a passenger caught fire. It was reported that the 169 passengers and 7 crew members on board were evacuated safely, and the fire was extinguished before it could spread. However, this incident has caused serious security concerns in the aviation industry. It was stated that this is the first time a ban has been imposed on bringing and carrying power banks on aircraft.

The South Korean Ministry of Transport has banned the storage of power banks in overhead luggage compartments on planes. The ministry announced that passengers will only be allowed to carry their power banks in their carry-on luggage, and their use during flight will be completely prohibited. This new regulation has also begun to be implemented by many Asian airlines, primarily Air Busan, Asiana Airlines, and Korean Air.

WHICH POWER BANKS ARE BANNED ON PLANES?

Aviation authorities around the world have set the following criteria for power banks that are prohibited from being carried on planes:

Power banks up to 100 Wh can be carried in carry-on luggage and are generally permitted for use during flight.

Power banks between 100 Wh and 300 Wh can only be carried in carry-on luggage, but most airlines may limit the number of such devices to one, and their use during flight is not permitted.

Power banks exceeding 300 Wh are generally among the devices prohibited from being carried on aircraft. Such power banks are considered hazardous materials and can only be transported in the cargo hold. However, most airlines completely prohibit the transport of such devices.
