In a statement, the US European Command (EUCOM) said, “A US military aircraft conducting a routine aerial refueling mission as part of military training suffered a mishap and crashed into the Mediterranean. All five service members on board were killed.”
The statement noted that search and rescue operations were initiated immediately following the incident, involving nearby US military aircraft and ships, and that an investigation is ongoing.
In a statement released by EUCOM yesterday, the crash was confirmed, and it was stated, “The cause of this training incident is under investigation. However, we can definitively say that the aircraft sortie was purely related to training and there are no indications of any hostile activity.”
Following the start of Israel’s attacks on Gaza, the US military carried out significant deployments to the Mediterranean, including two aircraft carriers, and began conducting exercises in the region. (AA)
