It has been alleged that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing to fully occupy the Gaza Strip. Reports in the Israeli press claim that Netanyahu is seeking cabinet support for the full occupation of the Gaza Strip, despite objections from within the military.

The reports state that in private meetings regarding the expansion of military operations in Gaza, Netanyahu used the term "occupation of the Strip," and that the security cabinet is divided over the full occupation of Gaza.

A senior official close to Netanyahu told the Israeli press, "The die is cast. We will fully occupy the Gaza Strip," adding, "There will be operations even in areas where hostages are being held. If the Israeli Chief of General Staff does not agree, he should resign."

The Israeli army, which currently occupies approximately 75 percent of the Gaza Strip, has stated on many occasions that it is against the full occupation of Gaza.
