Amnesty International's comment on the Dutch election: 'Human rights lost yesterday'

Amnesty International Netherlands branch stated in a post on X, "Human rights lost yesterday. A racist party won the Dutch elections. A party that excludes a certain part of the population by labeling them as inferior."

EMPHASIS ON CONTINUING THE STRUGGLE

The statement, which noted that the election manifesto of Wilders' party undermines the rule of law and the Constitution, pointed to the PVV's anti-immigrant stance. The statement emphasized that they will continue to fight for human rights for everyone and at all times.

RIGHT-WING SEATS IN PARLIAMENT INCREASED TO 41

The PVV, which obtained 17 seats in parliament as a result of the 2021 elections, increased this number to 37. The PVV's vote share also rose to 23.5 percent, an increase of 10.8 points.

Another far-right party, the Forum for Democracy led by Thierry Baudet, lost 5 seats compared to the 2021 elections, falling to 3 seats, while the JA21 Party dropped from 3 seats to one. Thus, the total number of seats held by far-right parties in parliament increased from 28 to 41.

The number of deputies from the Socialist Party, led by Lilian Marijnissen, decreased by 4 compared to the 2021 elections, falling to 5. The Farmer-Citizen Movement Party, which has the most seats in the Dutch Senate and obtained one seat in the House of Representatives in 2021, won 7 seats.
