Armed attacks were carried out in the Mangu, Bokkos, and Barkin Ladi regions of Nigeria's Plateau state, where a curfew is in effect for security reasons. It was reported that 28 people lost their lives and many others were injured in the attacks.
Regional authorities announced that an investigation into the attacks has been launched. Due to increasing security concerns, the Plateau administration had declared a curfew between 18:00 and 06:00 in Mangu, Bokkos, and Barkin Ladi on September 21, and had also suspended the use of motorcycles in the three regions.
Despite the measures taken, it is stated that violent incidents continue in the region. In separate attacks carried out in Barkin Ladi and Mangu on September 23, at least 5 people, including a police officer, had lost their lives.
According to information in the local press, the attacks, which have been repeated in recent weeks, have also negatively affected agricultural and livestock activities. It was reported that some local residents have been forced to abandon their livelihoods.
Plateau state has recently been in the news due to attacks by armed gangs. More than 30 people lost their lives in attacks carried out in the region last month. Different regions of Nigeria have long been subjected to attacks by armed gangs as well as Boko Haram and ISWAP, the West African branch of ISIS.
