Assessment from America regarding F-16 sales to Turkey

White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby stated that the US administration continues to support the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey.

Kirby evaluated the F-16 sale to Turkey during his daily press briefing.

Noting that the Joe Biden administration has followed the same line on this issue since taking office, Kirby remarked, "We have had a consistent policy position on this since we came into office.

We continue to support the sale of additional F-16s and the modernization of Turkey's F-16 fleet."

NO CLEAR DATE STATED

Regarding when the official notification for the sale of the F-16s will be sent to Congress, Kirby said he could not provide a clear date for the sales schedule.

Turkey submitted a letter of intent to the US in October 2021 to purchase 40 Block-70 F-16 fighter jets and 79 modernization kits.

The US administration, in its statements to date, has expressed its support for the F-16 sale to Turkey but has avoided clear statements regarding when it will make the official notification to Congress.
