Attack on hospital causes death of 6 premature babies

Al-Shifa Hospital Director Muhammad Abu Silmiya stated in a statement to an AA reporter that 7 patients from the intensive care unit and other wards died yesterday due to a lack of medical supplies and power outages.

Reporting that 6 premature babies in the intensive care unit, as well as 9 wounded patients, also lost their lives due to power outages affecting vital equipment, Abu Silmiya noted that the number of people who have lost their lives so far at the hospital, which has been besieged by the Israeli army for three days, has risen to 20.

Pointing out that these deaths occurred as a result of Israel not allowing fuel to enter, Abu Silmiya said there are 33 more premature babies in the hospital whose lives are in danger.

Regarding allegations that 300 liters of fuel provided to the hospital were rejected, Abu Silmiya used the phrase "It consists of lies and slander," and said the fuel offered by Israel "would only be able to run the hospital's generators for 15 minutes."

Expressing that the medical and administrative staff at the hospital fear being targeted if this small amount of fuel is received, Abu Silmiya stated that they have requested from Israel that the fuel be delivered to the hospital through the International Committee of the Red Cross or any international organization.

Doctors Without Borders: We cannot bring in the wounded waiting for treatment around Al-Shifa Hospital

A post was made on the X social media platform by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) regarding Al-Shifa Hospital, which is under Israeli blockade and intense attacks.

In the post, made after obtaining information about the latest situation from an MSF worker at the hospital, it was stated that there is no electricity, water, or food at the hospital, and that if ventilators do not work, people will lose their lives within a few hours.

The post included the statement, "They attacked an ambulance going to patients next to (Gaza's) Al-Shifa Hospital. We cannot bring in the wounded waiting for treatment around the hospital."

It was stated that there was a sniper attacking patients, and it was reported that 3 people wounded as a result of the attacks were operated on.

The post used the phrase, "The situation is very bad and inhumane. It is a closed area and no one knows anything about us."

In the post, which stated that wounded patients and medical teams are at Al-Shifa Hospital, it was said, "If they give us guarantees and evacuate the patients first, we will also evacuate the hospital."

Ministry of Health in Gaza: Patients are dying every minute due to lack of fuel

Ashraf al-Qudra, spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, provided information in a statement to an AA reporter regarding the situation at Al-Shifa Hospital, where eyes are turned in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army is increasingly intensifying its ground attacks.

Stating that they have not been able to update the death toll for the last three days because communication has been completely cut off with hospitals working with limited resources under an internet blackout in Gaza, Qudra denied the Israeli army's claims that "it is not besieging Al-Shifa Hospital and that those who wish can leave safely through the eastern gate."

"It is not even possible to move from one building to another in the hospital"

Qudra said, "Al-Shifa Hospital has been out of service for the last three days due to a power outage. The Israeli army has besieged Al-Shifa Hospital. There are tanks at the eastern and southern exits of the hospital; it does not allow entry or exit. The hospital courtyard is being targeted by snipers. It is not even possible to move from one building to another inside this medical complex."

Not even one baby has been able to be transferred so far

Pointing to the statement by Israeli Army Spokesperson Daniel Hagari that "they are working with international organizations to transfer the babies in incubators in the neonatal ward," Qudra emphasized that they have been waiting for news from international organizations for three days to transfer the babies in incubators in the neonatal ward at Al-Shifa Hospital out of the Gaza Strip, but not even one baby has been able to be transferred so far.

Pointing out that life-saving medical machines have not been working at the hospital for three days due to a lack of fuel, Qudra said, "Life-saving medical machines cannot work at Al-Shifa Hospital in the face of the fuel shortage. People are dying every minute because we cannot provide health services to the wounded being treated and the patients in the intensive care unit."

Call to the whole world

Pointing out that they have established contact with all multinational institutions and organizations, Qudra noted the following:

"We are reaching out to all international organizations. So far, no solution has been produced for us that is sufficient, feasible, or capable of providing health services to patients in Gaza. We reiterate our call to the whole world to stop the attacks on Gaza and Al-Shifa Hospital so that we can provide health services."

Israeli Army Spokesperson Daniel Hagari claimed in a press conference he held on Saturday evening that Al-Shifa Hospital was not under siege.

Hagari claimed that the eastern gate of Al-Shifa Hospital was open for Gazans who wanted to leave.

Claiming that they speak directly and regularly with Al-Shifa Hospital staff, Hagari had said that "they would help transport the babies in the hospital's pediatric ward to a safer hospital."

Hundreds of corpses have piled up in the courtyard of Al-Shifa Hospital

Yusuf Abu al-Rish, Deputy Minister of Health in the Gaza Strip, provided information in a statement to an AA reporter regarding the humanitarian situation at Al-Shifa Hospital.

Abu al-Rish said, "Israeli forces are targeting the courtyards of Al-Shifa Hospital, where hundreds of corpses are piled up; the situation here is a harbinger of an epidemic and a real catastrophe."

Drawing attention to the scale of the humanitarian situation at the hospital, Abu al-Rish said, "The situation at the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip, is very dangerous; people are being forced to leave the hospital even though they are wounded. We have repeatedly demanded that the safety of our patients be ensured while they are being evacuated from the hospital."

WHO: The situation at Al-Shifa Hospital is dire

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made a post on the X social media platform regarding Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, which is being targeted by the Israeli army.

Stating that the WHO has managed to re-establish contact with health workers at Al-Shifa Hospital, Ghebreyesus assessed, "The situation at Al-Shifa Hospital is dire. There is a catastrophic increase in patient deaths. Unfortunately, the hospital can no longer function as a hospital."
