Azerbaijan Airlines suspends flights to Kazan

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has suspended all flights to the Russian city of Kazan indefinitely, effective today. In a statement issued by AZAL, it was stated that the flights were suspended due to flight safety concerns.

The statement noted that passengers with tickets to the airport in question are entitled to a full refund of their ticket price or to change their tickets free of charge.

AZAL had previously decided to suspend its flights to the Russian cities of Mineralnye Vody, Sochi, Volgograd, Ufa, Samara, Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladikavkaz, Grozny, and Makhachkala. With Kazan, Azerbaijan has now suspended flights to 11 cities in Russia.

PASSENGER PLANE HAD CRASHED

A passenger plane belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines, which took off from the Azerbaijani capital Baku on December 25 to travel to the city of Grozny in Chechnya, Russia, was shot down by Russia in the Grozny airspace. The passenger plane, which was diverted to Kazakhstan, crashed while attempting an emergency landing in the city of Aktau. Of the 67 people on board, 38 lost their lives, while 29 people survived. Russian President Vladimir Putin called Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to apologize, as the incident occurred in Russian airspace.
