Azerbaijan's D-8 membership approved
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has approved his country's membership in the Developing Eight (D-8) Organization.

According to the Azerbaijani Presidency, President Ilham Aliyev has signed the decree regarding the approval of Azerbaijan's membership in the D-8 Organization.
Azerbaijan's membership in the organization was unanimously accepted at the 11th D-8 Summit held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, on December 19, 2024.
WHAT IS THE D-8 ORGANIZATION?
The D-8 Organization was established in Istanbul on June 15, 1997. The Secretariat of the organization, which includes Turkey, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and now Azerbaijan as members, is located in Istanbul.
The total population of the D-8 countries, all of which are also members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), reaches approximately 1.2 billion. The D-8's total foreign trade volume, which exceeds 2.3 trillion dollars, accounts for approximately 5 percent of global trade.
The purpose of the D-8 is stated as "improving the position of developing countries in the world economy, diversifying their commercial relations, creating new opportunities in the field of trade for member countries, and ensuring their strong participation in decision-making mechanisms at the international level."
The organization's main areas of activity are trade, agriculture and food security, industry, energy, and transportation and connectivity, with work also continuing in the fields of health and tourism.
