Bashar al-Assad's cousin arrested in Syria
The Interior Ministry of the interim administration in Syria announced that Waseem al-Assad, a cousin of Bashar al-Assad, was arrested following an operation. The reason for the arrest was the allegation that Waseem al-Assad was "the leader of one of the country's largest drug trafficking networks."

Waseem al-Assad, a cousin of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has been arrested by the Interior Ministry of the interim administration that has taken control of Syria.
According to a statement made on the ministry's social media account, Waseem was captured as a result of an operation carried out by the General Intelligence Directorate in cooperation with units affiliated with the Interior Ministry.
INTERIOR MINISTRY ANNOUNCED
The statement included the following: "The General Intelligence Directorate, in cooperation with relevant units affiliated with the Interior Ministry, succeeded in ambushing and capturing the criminal Waseem al-Assad, who was involved in many crimes during the former regime and is known as one of the most prominent drug traffickers."
Born in 1980, married, and a resident of Tartus, Waseem al-Assad was on the sanctions lists of the US and the EU.
