Nuclear weapon threat from Belarusian leader Lukashenko: If you attack us, we will use them

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko explained the circumstances under which they could use nuclear weapons to protect Belarus and Russia during a meeting with university students in Minsk.

Recalling his previous statement that an attack on Belarus could trigger a Third World War, Lukashenko noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed his position by announcing work on a "nuclear doctrine change" that allows for the use of nuclear weapons in the event of an attack on Russia or his country.

Lukashenko stated that US and Polish troops, as part of NATO forces, are deployed along Belarus's western borders, saying, "The moment they attack us, we will use nuclear weapons. They may respond to us."

'I AM HONEST AND OPEN ABOUT THIS'

Stating that in such a scenario, an attack would also be launched against Russia, Lukashenko said, "Thus, Russia will also use its entire arsenal. This means a world war. The West does not want this anyway. They are not ready for it, but we are clearly telling them that our red line is our state borders. If they step on them, the response will be immediate. We are preparing for this. I am speaking honestly and openly about this."

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the "updating of the foundations of state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence" during a meeting with members of the Security Council the other day. In this context, Putin stated that they would consider an attack on Russia by a non-nuclear state with the participation and support of a nuclear-armed state as a joint attack.

Putin had stated, "We reserve the right to use nuclear weapons in the event of aggression against Russia and Belarus. This also includes cases where an enemy using conventional weapons poses a critical threat to our sovereignty."
