US President Joe Biden traveled to the capital, Paris, following the 80th-anniversary ceremonies of the D-Day landings.
During his contacts in Paris, Biden met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In the meeting, Biden apologized to Zelenskyy. Stating, "I apologize for the new military aid package that was delayed due to opposition from Republicans in Congress earlier this year," Biden added, "I apologize for the weeks where we didn't know what was going to pass in terms of aid. Because we had trouble getting the bill that included the money that some of our conservative members were holding up, but we got it done."
Noting that he was impressed by the courage of the Ukrainian people, Biden said, "You haven't bowed down, you haven't yielded at all, you continue to fight in a way that is just remarkable, and we're staying with you." Noting that he has announced 6 aid packages to date, Biden said, "I'm also signing an additional $225 million package today to help you rebuild your power grid."
Zelenskiy, expressing his gratitude for the support and solidarity provided by the US, said, "It is very important that in this unity, the US, all the American people, are standing with Ukraine just as they did during World War II. How the US helped to save human lives, to save Europe. We are counting on your continued support in standing shoulder to shoulder with us."
